There was this 4 year gap after high school where I stopped listening to the radio. Between Madonna's Confessions on a Dance Floor and Lady Gaga's The Fame Monster I was completely oblivious to modern hit music, instead entertaining my obsession with German techno. But lately I started listening to the station that was one of my favorites back in high school. Gotta say I'm not digging 90% of this garbage that the kids are listening to these days... Anyways the other day I'm listening to 107.9 The End ("All the Hits!") and suddenly I hear Mo Money Mo Problems by the Notorious B.I.G. What?! This is a modern hit music radio station, not one of those Gen-Xer stations that always play stuff from the "Eighties, Nineties, and Today!" Over the next few days on several popular music stations, I'm hearing songs from like 20 years ago! Ramblin' Man? Breakfast at Tiffany's? The Joker? Are they serious? Why are they playing this old stuff? I mean, these are great songs and all, but why play them now? I don't even remember them playing these songs when they were relevant! I knew that on any given pop station, they might play a hit from maybe 5 years back, at the most, and that was once in a blue moon. Now it's every hour on pop radio they're playing these "oldies." Given my 4 year absence from the radio, I can only wonder if this a recent development.
