So last winter I spent the day standing around in a police uniform on the set of Amalfi: Gaikoukan Kuroda Kosaku. This was a Japanese production, which was obviously well-funded - after all, they were shooting in the US (later they would do scenes in Mexico and Italy.)
We extras, my bad - "background artists," had to arrive early - and in suits, as many of the roles required formal dress - secret service agents, dignitaries, members of the press. I arrived to set with a woman I'd met on the subway ride over - we had been staring at each other for the better part of the ride, trying to figure out if we were both headed to the same place - after all we were the only two in formal dress on an 8AM subway...on a Saturday.
I was the one to break the silence.
